The Collections

SHIORI Colgante citrina 45€ y colgante cuerno ágata www.shiori.esDo you want to know about what is new? This year we are also adding some new pieces to our website.

With the Ocean collection, we introduce the bright amethyst and citrine, highlighting the colours of the irregular bracelets that call back to the ocean with gems like aventurine and labradorite, combined with pyrite. This way, even during winter you can recall the strength of this incredible element: the water, and you can remember the bright sun that follows the cold.

On the other hand, the Asian Touch’s pendants get a baroque touch thanks to different elements extracted from exquisite places such as Vietnam: elaborated pompoms, enamelled pieces, bronze elements and some semi-precious stones as a final touch.

We have created with all that astonishing jewelry that will bright up your winter, bringing you closer to the boho style that we seek.

But truth be told, the real protagonist is the new collection we are preparing, using as a base our motto and the true essence of Shiori: the boho-chic style.

This collection will be known by it’s light rock touch, that will allure the youngest audience.

It is composed by long, circular earring, semi-precious stones and crystal, agate in the shape of an elephant horn and bracelets with messages to live by and share.

These last ones will be particularly noteworthy because they will be part of our customization tool, so you can easily combine them with other Shiori bracelets.

However, the core piece is the Free Spirit pendant, with a positive and inspiring message that you can always bring with you, close to your heart. We really wanted the create a unique piece that represented the motto of our brand.

Behind the handmade jewelry Elements

Behind the handmade jewelry: Elements

What is the spark for a great idea? Where does it come from? That is a quite frequent question from our followers, specially while talking about handmade jewelry from Spain.

Our most popular collection, Elements, has a relevant background story that we would love to share today with you. It all comes down to the pure essence of Shiori and it’s intimate relation with nature and the forces that one can sense around us.

As it’s name goes, it represents the four core elements of nature that one can encounter through all the human history such as Ancient Greek, China and some mysterious proto-sciences like alchemy.

Behind the handmade jewelry Elements

The Four Elements

Although in some places they represent more elements or even with some variations, the four that we chose for this collection are the predominants: Water, Air, Fire and Earth.

Human and Nature have always gone hand by hand, creating a unique connection that almost every culture has represented somehow. From Gaia to Mother Earth, nature has always have a relevant impact. Some even believe that each element is intimately related to our personality, philosophy and way of being, manifesting differences according to the connection’ strength with each of them.

That means all of us have some Water, Air, Fire and Earth within, but depending on the grade of predominance, we tend to be one way or another.

This concept is represented with one of our handmade jewelry pieces: the Elements’ necklace gathers the four of them with ancient symbols, making outstanding the main one through the stones colours.

In the Ancient Greek, the four elements were also used as part of a proto-psychological theory invented by Hippocrates around the 129 – c. 200 AC. It is now considered an ancient medical concept called humorism, which was greatly used and studied during the 18th century.

Today, we would love to explain you the meaning hidden behing our spanish handmade jewelry.

The Fire – Choleric or kholé

Behind the handmade jewelry Elements fireThe warm and dry element is usually seen as aggressive and impulsive, but is also associated to leadership, restlessness and ambition. It is linked to Summer, the hottest season and it has some good and bad qualities:

Positive qualities: vigorousness, zeal, enthusiasm, courage, decisiveness, power of creativity, daring, sedulity…
Negative qualities: quarrelsomeness, irritability, urge to destroy everything, passion, immoderacy, jealousy, voraciousness, vindictiveness, violence, hate, anger, sudden ebullition…

The stones chosen to represent this element are smoky quartz, pink-cherry quartz and citrine.

The Air – Sanguine or sanguis

Behind the handmade jewelry ElementsWarm and moist are the main qualities of air, which also represents a hopeful and playful personality, according to its season: Spring.

Some of its positive qualities are vigilance, care-freedom, kind-heartedness, trusting nature, clarity, lightness, independency, dexterity, optimism, diligence, acuity, joy, smiling…

But they are also known for their lack of perseverance, dishonesty, gossipy, backbiting, garrulousness, inconstancy, touchiness, prodigality…

We decided to represent air with amethyst, opalite and pink quartz. It shares some qualities with fire (the warmth) and water (the moist)

The Water – Phlegmatic or phlégma

Behind the handmade jewelry Elements

Of course, water is moist and voluble, and also perceived as cold. It goes with Winter, representing the thoughtfulness and patience of the spirit.

Positive qualities: understanding, placidity, mildness, trusting nature, devotion, mercy, forgiveness, modesty, compassion, fervour, pliancy, meditativeness, internalization…

Negative qualities: indifference, heartlessness, laziness, indolence, rigidity, lack of daring, lack of concern, unstableness, dejection…

Our preferred stones are aqua calcedonite, apatite, aventurine and aquamarine.

The Earth – Melancholic or melaina kholé

Behind the handmade jewelry ElementsThe last element, probably the less favored, is dry and cold like the autumn, the season when everything dies. Its people is considered to be serious and analytic.

Positive qualities: consistency, conscientiousness, perseverance, punctuality, caution, resistance, responsibility, carefulness, firmness, reliability, sobriety, ambition, respectfulness, matter-of-factness…

Negative qualities: stuffiness, superficiality, laziness, indifference, cumbersomeness, touchiness, lack of conscientiousness, irregularity, timidity, scornfulness…

For Earth there is a great variety of stones that we could choose from. Actualy, somehow all the stones belong to earth. However, to represent the conceop we opted for prehnita, green amethyst, smoky quartz and labradorite.

Creating handmade jewelry in Spain not only allow us to build beautiful and sophisticated accessories, but also ones with a meaningful story and a positive aura that everyone can identify with. That gives power and charm to each piece.

This collection is constantly evolving. The first step was the Element rings in gold, combining two stones according to each element. These gorgeous pieces were the base, but we felt like it needed something to gather everything and represent that, in the end, we all have a little bit of each four elements.

That is the reason why we designed the necklace with the symbolic representation of Water, Fire, Earth and Air. Some people might think it is a little bit too simple, but for us it is a harmonic combination of all of them. We also designed the rigid, sophisticated bracelet with two different ending.

The first go was entirely gold, and it came out during autumn, but during summer we decided to include the matte silver to add some variety and play with the warm-cold dinamic. It all depends to your preferences, of course.

Since then, we are working on some more designs since its versatility is almost endless. It is a collection that connects deeply with our core values and keeps us in touch with our true self through beautiful handmade jewelry, which gives an even more personal feeling. As Shiori Jewelry, our brand, which has its origin in nature, this collection has a powerful and inspiring meaning that we are glad to share with you.

Behind Shiori’s handmade jewellery

What makes a piece of jewellery absolutely unique? Have you ever wondered why purchasing high, handmade jewellery is better?

Today, we would love to share with you the art behind Shiori Jewellery so you can get to know us better.

The process of creation is something very intimidating and special that occurs just between the maker and its masterpiece, no matter if we are talking about writing, design or handmade jewellery. Sometimes even involves a team of professionals working. And in an industrialized world, we believe craftsmanship makes a huge difference. It gives an exclusive touch to every single piece, and that is one of the main goals we have at Shiori.

But, what inspires the artist? What is the process until the piece is done and in your hands? Of course, each master has his or her own secrets, and sometimes it can be difficult to really get to know the brand. But today, we will take you behind the scenes.

Creativity and Inspiration

As you already know, travelling and nature are the core of our collections. From the colours of a tree to the flow of a river, everything can be part of the creative process. And of course, moving around the world offers an exclusive view that not everybody has the pleasure to experience.

For example, the Spring-Summer collection is a vivid memory of the fashionable decadence of La Habana, the capital of Cuba. It not only reflects the beauty of a place, but it brings back the essence of culture. Sometimes, Shiori’s jewellery is inspired by a city, others by an entire culture or even a concept; but each collection has its particular background story that we would love to share with you, because that makes it just irreplaceable.

But there are other sources that we love too.

From the brightness of San Francisco’s city to the Chrysler building in New York, architecture plays a key role at Shiori. The structures and incredible designs are quite moving, captivating the eye of the pedestrians and our customers.

Buildings are not just useful architectural structures but part of the identity of a city. And we are not only talking about main building. Just think about the architectural composition of any big city, such as Tokyo. Many people overlook this, but if you pay keen attention to what is around you, you can probably discover more than you could ever imagine.

The contrast between European styles and the Asian ones, or the evolution that entire countries have experience from ancient times until know… Everything could be a great start for a new collection because we try to reflect that, the personality of specific places. Can you guess some of them?

And music! Who doesn’t love a captivating melody?

It helps us to travel with just our imagination. That is a perfect way to explore and understand other periods of time, like the crazy and irreplaceable 20s! Who wouldn’t love to see that brightness and experience the energy?

Of course, there are many others such as fashion, which goes hand by hand with jewellery, and the patterns of beautiful artistic movements. And when something catches our imagination, we take note of it and draft and idea that later will be carefully studied and developed.

That is just the beginning of the magic.

Materials and Handmade Jewellery

semiprecious stonesMetal alloys (always anti-allergic), brass, gold and sterling silver are the main components of Shiori’s jewellery without counting the semi-precious stones. Our favourites ones are usually pink quartz, opal, amethyst and calcedonita, but we have a wide assortment that varies each season (brighter colours for spring and summer, and neutral ones for the rest of the year).
Each stone is sculpted and crafted by hand according to the drawings and sketches prepared. That differentiates Shiori’s jewellery from the mass-produced market, which has been always our main goal.

Later, they are combined with other materials sometimes including fabrics like nylon, silk and leather, to create all kind of necklaces, bracelets and rings. To add a little bit of fun, we love playing with different textures like fringes and pompoms, depending on the feeling we want to create.

That is the way a design comes to life, although sometimes it can be a very difficult process. What one has in mind is not always what actually occurs when you are crafting a new piece. There are times in which ideas are not very clear on the paper but they come to life while combining different materials and the other way around.

It is definitely a complex process that shouldn’t be underestimated. But all is worth it to provide excellent handmade jewellery that will please our customers.

The Brand

Shiori always looks for the balance between quality, uniqueness and price, seeking a public who is able to appreciate a singular design with a powerful story behind it. Therefore, handmade jewellery is not a random choice but an intentional election to acquire something meaningful.

As you can see, we always wants to transmit more to you through our variety of designs: it could be an idea, the essence of a place or the experience of nature. High jewellery doesn’t have to be just expensive; it can be crafted through much more to take you to unexplored places.

We hope that this article brings you a little bit more light on the process of our pieces and how they are made. That is the signature of our brand, and it is important for us that you are aware of it at some level. Soon we will dive more into the backstory of each one of our collections!
